Why a Cruise Makes a Great Bachelorette

A bachelorette cruise puts the whole celebration under one roof. There is no need to book a party house, arrange rides between bars or worry about who gets home safely. Your cabins are a short walk from the dance floor, and the next morning there is a beach waiting.

It also helps the bride’s budget-minded friends. Most of the cost is known in advance, so bridesmaids can plan around a single figure rather than an open-ended weekend of restaurant bills and cover charges.

Build the Weekend

DayIdeas
Sail-awayMatching shirts or sashes at the muster drill (wear them after, not instead of, the safety briefing), sail-away drinks on deck, a group photo.
Sea daySpa morning for the bride, pool games, a cocktail or mixology class if the ship offers one, dinner in a specialty restaurant.
Port dayA beach club, catamaran or snorkel trip booked for the whole group. Our sister site Shore Activities lists excursions by port.
Last nightFormal or theme night, a show, then the nightclub or karaoke bar.

Keep It Fun for Everyone

  • Budget kindly. Agree in advance whether the group covers the bride’s share, and say so in writing.
  • Know the drinks rules. Some lines require every adult in a cabin to buy the same alcohol package if one does, so decide on packages by cabin.
  • Respect other guests. Ships are shared spaces; costumes and props that suit a club may not suit the dining room.
  • Plan one calm moment. A sunrise coffee on deck or a quiet toast at dinner is often what the bride remembers most.

Timing the Trip

Most bachelorette cruises sail two to four months before the wedding, far enough ahead that nobody is juggling final dress fittings and close enough that the excitement is building. Avoid sailing in the last few weeks before the big day; a sunburn or a delayed flight home is the last thing the bride needs. If the bridal party lives in different cities, pick a home port with plenty of direct flights and plan to arrive the night before so everyone boards together.

Bachelorette Questions

Can we decorate the cabin or dining table?

Policies differ by line. Many forbid tape, nails and confetti in cabins, and some sell decoration packages instead. Our advisors will check the rules for your ship.

Is a short cruise enough for a bachelorette?

Yes. A three- or four-night sailing gives you two or three nights of celebration, a beach day and a port night, without asking bridesmaids to take a full week off.

What if some bridesmaids are under 21?

Check the age policy before you book. Since 2025 Royal Caribbean and Carnival require guests to be 21 to sail without an older adult on North American sailings, and drinking ages on board and ashore also apply.
